Story/Writing

Within the twenty-two interior pages, George Mann does an incredible job of placing you within the Dark Souls universe without feeling you need to read the previous series or have played the games. That may be due to the comic scripts' several backstory/plot components, making the story beats easy to follow. When it comes down to it, the script for the debut issue will grasp readers, immersing them into the darkened souls of these warriors on a specific task together. Also, how enjoyable George Mann's poetic-like dialogue and storytelling elevate this premier issue.

Art

The collaborative team is simply astounding when matched together. Throughout the issue, the reader will sense an entire creative team in sync, like the Grateful Dead hitting the peak of Fire on the Mountain. Maan House imagined astounding twisted fantasy art, passing it over to Roman Stevens, who then used an arranged palette of warm, muted colors. When someone may picture a Dark Souls comic before picking it up, Titan comics made the right choice. It simply feels faithful to the brand. These artists poured everything into the debut issue.

Dark Souls: Willow King #1 is on sale on February 7th!
